The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ, and the Church pursues its mission as it prays and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love.
Adapted from the Book of Common Prayer Catechism, page 855.
There are numerous ways in which St. James's engages in the Church's mission, though it is important to emphasize that the Church's mission is actually God's mission, the missio dei. As Christians we are "Participating in God's Mission," the catchphrase for the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, whose website states:
'Participating in God’s mission' looks different in different places, and different times, and with different people. Wherever, and whenever, the restoring, reconciling love of God in Christ through the Holy Spirit breaks into the world to 'make all things new', there is God’s mission."
We hope you will find ways to plug in to what God might be up to through the people of St. James's Church. We encourage you to submit your ideas for further mission opportunities to the Mission Commission.
