CONCORA’s now fifty-year history has always included masterworks from revered Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach Cantatas: Town Council Elections marks the official start of CONCORA’s partnership with THE COMPLETE BACH, an ambitious project that will present all of the music Bach ever wrote live in America for the first time. Bach Cantatas: Town Council Elections features three of Bach's cantatas, BWV71, 119, and 120, which were all written in celebration of local elections during Bach’s lifetime. Admission is $30-$40 for adults, children and students with a valid ID are FREE. Hosted by the Greater Hartford Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and now in its 33rd year, PipeScreams is a raucous, theatrical, Halloween organ program that is fun for the whole community. Featuring costumed performers, special effects, and musical hauntings, this spectacle draws large crowds every year and features organists of all ages from the Greater Hartford AGO community. Ghost stories and seasonal treats around the bonfire begin at 6:00pm, hosted by Chion Wolf (of NPR/CT-Public’s Audacious with Chion Wolf); organ concert begins at 7:00pm and is approximately one hour in length. Free admission.
All Saints' Sunday & Stewardship Brunch

We will celebrate All Saints' Sunday followed by the annual Stewardship Brunch on Sunday, November 3 beginning at 9:30am. If you are able, bring a breakfast casserole to share with the group. If you are able to also bring your pledge card, please do! All are welcome - invite someone to join you.

This is a first-of-its-kind, intergenerational music event that will connect the timeless wisdom of beloved children’s books (Frog and Toad, Miss Rumphius, The Rainbow Fish, The Bad Seed, Goodnight Moon, etc.) with choral works by Jake Runestad, Jonathan Dove, David Hurd, etc. and theological reflections for children and adults of all ages as we honor the child that lives within us all. Come join us for this unique event - and yes, you are encouraged to bring your baby blanket and teddy bear. Freewill donation.

Another not-to-be-missed St. James’s Auction is coming up on Saturday, November 16 at 6pm. As always, there will be a fun theme, amazing food, good conversation, and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $40/person or $350 for a VIP table of 8 (which comes with some special perks…details coming soon!). Tickets will be on sale beginning on October 5. But right now, the best way you can support the auction is to donate auction items that are sure to inspire spirited bidding. Here are some ideas of items that have done well in the past, but we welcome your creativity if you have other ideas. Please see the online bulletins for items needed and more information.

Once again, St. James's will be selling Christmas trees beginning Saturday, November 30 through Sunday, December 8 (or until trees are gone). The sale is held in front of the church on the Farmington side of the building. Prices will be forthcoming. Sale hours: Mon-Fri 4-7pm; Saturday 9am-6pm; and Sunday 12pm-6pm. Cash, credit card, and check accepted. Don't miss it and spread the word!

As we make our way through fall and into the holiday season, we are preparing for our annual Christmas Bag Mission Project which supports men in area shelters. This year our collection begins in October and runs through November. We will gather on the first Sunday of Advent, December 1, to sort the toiletries and fill the bags after the 9:30 service in the Parish Hall. Please see the online bulletins or fall newsletters for items most needed. The Christmas Bags are very much appreciated by the men who receive them, as most often they are the only gifts they will receive. Candy cane donations are also appreciated.

For our Christmas concert this year, we will be focusing on Mary, the mother of Jesus, with choral and organ repertoire written exclusively by female composers over the centuries. Works by Abbie Betinis, Anna Lapwood, Hildegard von Bingen, Rosephanye Powell, etc. will be presented by our adult choir, choristers, and children’s choir along with instruments for this musical celebration of the season. Freewill donation.
