19th-Century French composer Gabriel Fauré is known for a number of things: his consummate gift for melody, his career as organist, and his development of a shimmering, coloristic, light-filled “French sound” alongside his friend Camille Saint-Saëns. All are on full display in his signature masterpiece, the Requiem, Opus 48. We will perform it as Fauré first conceived it, with organ, for his own choir in its cozy gallery. The program will feature two additional Fauré masterpieces: the Elegy for Cello and Piano, and the motet Cantique de Jean Racine, and will be held on Sunday, October 29 at 5pm in the church. Alan Murchie, piano, with Christopher Hill, cello. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased after services on Sundays or in the parish office during office hours.
