MINISTRIES: Other Offerings for Children and Youth
Children's Liturgy
At the 9:30 service, the children from age three through third grade are
invited to follow the second cross during the procession out of the church
into the parish hall. During the children's liturgy we read the gospel and
explore the Word through games, music and art. We also do the Prayers
of the People together and have a moment of silent prayer before we
return to the church and join our families. The children's liturgy is offered
most Sundays during the program year.
Acolytes
Acolytes grow spiritually in the church by actively assisting the clergy in the
worship of God at regular Sunday services and other special services.
Acolytes perform a variety of duties including carrying the cross in procession
(crucifer), carrying the torches (torch bearer), and carrying the Gospel book
(Gospel bearer). They also assist the celebrant in preparing the Altar for the
Eucharist. All youth from the 4th grade through high school are encouraged
to serve as acolytes.
Mom's Morning Out
Mom's Morning Out is a program where parents of young children can leave
their children in the care of other loving parents. This provides an opportunity
to have a few hours to meet a friend, do errands, do home projects, make
appointments, etc.
This is a ministry for all parents in our community.
The Girls Friendly Society (GFS)
(GFS) is experiencing resurgence in the Episcopal Church
and the Anglican Church worldwide. The GFS was founded in 1875 in England by
Mary Elizabeth Townsend. It was the first organization for women in the Church of
England. It is a National Volunteer organization in the Episcopal church for young
women from ages 5 to 21. The purpose of GFS is to provide an organization dedicated
to helping young women grow within a fellowship to love and mutual respect. At
St. James's the GFS will be an opportunity for girls to lean about the challenges facing
young women around the world and to come up with ways to make a difference. The
group will meet, have speakers and develop ways that young Episcopal women in
West Hartford, Connecticut can make this world a better place.
Middle School Youth Group

sleepovers, bowling, movie nights and haunted hay rides. This group is open to all members of
St. James's and their friends that are in sixth through eighth grade. A schedule of events is available
